Definition of Performance Management

Performance management is the ongoing process of communication between a supervisor and an employee that occurs throughout the year, in support of accomplishing the strategic objectives of the organization. Managers and employees will have regular check ins to understand how the employee is performing and where they may need to improve. These regular check ins allow the manager to correct employee behaviour so that teams align with the overall objectives of the organisation. In turn, employees are motivated to improve their skill and competency set so that they can be promoted, or find different positions within the organisation.
